15 Minutes Alone with God

At the conclusion of the Furaha sports fellowship on Sat 13th Jan 07, members took a brief look at their prospects for the year ahead to compare what each had as the outstanding goal in 2007. Responses to this were; pay close attention to advance pursuits of academic study, meet and make new friends, work hard in order get that long desired car among many others.

At an auction for a deceased rich man, the first item to be presented for bidding was the painting of a young ill looking boy. None of the bidders thought much of it and most waited for the rest of the other more interesting items. However after the painting was sold for a meagre sum the auction was closed and the deceased’s will read. It was the deceased rich man’s will that the bidder to purchase the painting of his ill son, to have the rest of the fortune. A similar story shared was that of a son who was given a choice in his father’s inheritance and opted for what his father had set his heart on, the slave to whom he owed his life. The slave was to inherit the rest of the entire property except the item the son chose to have. In choosing the slave the son got everything.

At a young age king Solomon in selecting wisdom was rewarded for making the right choice. Jesus in the scripture commended Mary for doing the needful thing by spending time listening at his feet. He advised his disciples to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all would be added to them as well. In [Mt 19:27-20:16] Jesus said “everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life”.

At the start of 2007 what New Year resolutions have you made? During the Furaha sports fellowship we saw it logical, rational and relevant for every one of us, to delight in the Lord in 2007 by spending at least 15 minutes with God alone each day. Because of this we know He will fulfil our hearts desires and keep us away from temptation [Lk 22:46] as we watch and pray. At the end of the year we wait to look back and take stock with no regrets but only rejoicing.
